Updating DNS Records for Your Domain

0 Was this answer helpful?

DNS records are instructions that tell the internet how to handle requests for your domain. You may need to update DNS records when connecting your domain to hosting, email services, or third-party platforms.

Common Record Types

  • A Record — Points your domain to an IP address (e.g., 203.0.113.50). Used for your main website.
  • CNAME Record — Creates an alias from one name to another (e.g., www to yourdomain.com). Cannot be used on the root domain.
  • MX Record — Routes email to your mail server. Requires a priority value (lower number = higher priority).
  • TXT Record — Stores text information. Used for SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and domain verification (Google, Microsoft, etc.).

Editing DNS Records

  1. Log in to the client portal and go to Domains > My Domains.
  2. Click Manage next to the domain.
  3. Select the DNS Management tab.
  4. Click Add Record to create a new entry, or click the edit icon next to an existing record to modify it.
  5. Select the record type, enter the host and value, set the TTL, and click Save.
Tip: Set a low TTL (300 seconds) before making changes so updates propagate faster. After confirming everything works, increase the TTL to 3600 or higher for caching benefits.
Note: DNS management is only available when your domain uses GigaGlobe nameservers. If you're using external nameservers, manage DNS at that provider.
