Accessing Your Traffic Reports
AWStats is a web analytics tool included with your DirectAdmin hosting account. It processes your server's access logs to generate detailed reports about your website's traffic, including visitor counts, page views, bandwidth usage, and more.
How to Access AWStats
- Log in to DirectAdmin.
- Navigate to Account Manager or System Info & Files.
- Click on Site Summary / Statistics (or AWStats).
- Select the domain you want to view statistics for.
- Click on the month you want to review, or select View AWStats for the full report.
Understanding the AWStats Report
AWStats provides several sections of data:
- Summary - Monthly overview of unique visitors, visits, pages, hits, and bandwidth.
- Monthly History - Bar charts showing traffic trends over previous months.
- Days of Month - Daily breakdown of traffic for the selected month.
- Hours - Traffic distribution across the 24 hours of the day.
- Countries - Geographic origin of your visitors based on IP address.
- Pages/URLs - The most visited pages on your website.
- Operating Systems - Which operating systems your visitors are using.
- Browsers - Which web browsers your visitors are using.
- Referring Sites - Which websites are sending traffic to yours.
- Search Keywords - Search terms visitors used to find your site (when available).
Key Metrics Explained
- Unique Visitors - The number of distinct IP addresses that accessed your site.
- Visits - The total number of browsing sessions (a visitor may make multiple visits).
- Pages - The number of page views (HTML, PHP, etc.).
- Hits - Every request to the server, including images, CSS, JS, and other assets.
- Bandwidth - Total data transferred to visitors.
AWStats processes log files periodically (usually once daily). If you have just launched your site, statistics may take up to 24 hours to appear. For real-time analytics, consider adding Google Analytics to your website.
AWStats bandwidth figures may differ slightly from your account's bandwidth usage shown in DirectAdmin, as AWStats only tracks web traffic while your account bandwidth includes FTP, email, and other services.
