Understanding DirectAdmin User Levels

DirectAdmin Access Levels Explained

DirectAdmin uses a three-tier access hierarchy. Each level has different permissions and capabilities. Understanding these levels helps you know what actions you can perform within the control panel.

Administrator Level

The Administrator is the highest access level in DirectAdmin. Administrators can:

  • Create and manage Reseller accounts.
  • Create and manage User accounts directly.
  • Configure server-wide settings such as PHP versions, Apache/Nginx, and DNS.
  • View and manage all accounts on the server.
  • Install software updates and manage server services.
  • Set resource packages and allocate resources to Resellers.

Reseller Level

Resellers are mid-level accounts that can manage multiple User accounts. Resellers can:

  • Create and manage User accounts within their allocated resources.
  • Create hosting packages with custom resource limits.
  • Manage DNS zones for their users' domains.
  • View bandwidth and resource usage for accounts under them.
  • Access their own hosting features (email, databases, files) as well.

User Level

The User level is the standard hosting account. Most customers operate at this level. Users can:

  • Manage their own domains, subdomains, and website files.
  • Create and manage email accounts and forwarders.
  • Create and manage MySQL databases.
  • Set up cron jobs, SSL certificates, and error pages.
  • View their own resource usage and site statistics.
As a GigaGlobe hosting customer, you typically have User-level access. If you have a reseller hosting plan, you will have Reseller-level access to create and manage accounts for your own clients.

Switching Between Levels

If you are a Reseller or Administrator, you can switch down to a User-level view by selecting Show All Users and clicking Login As next to any user account. This allows you to manage their account directly without needing their password.
